…how wonderful it would be to see this happen in Québec, too. As it stands, while most inspectors in Québec are obligated to hold professional liability insurance, and while there are recognized orders of professional inspectors out here, there is no real legal obligation for inspectors to hold licenses, as doctors, lawyers, and realtors do. That means anybody can claim to be an inspector, hang a shingle, and get into business. Then again, we’ve also heard of incredibly qualified home inspectors that belong to American associations, and to maintain their association status, are obligated to go through rigorous testing and continuing education to maintain their knowledge.
We think licensing requirements would be a great way to homogenize a fragmented industry and ensure that qualified inspectors work.
